About Maine Fiberarts

What is Fiber Art?

We define “fiber art” to include basketry, beadwork, braiding, clothing design, crochet, dyeing, embroidery, felting, hooking, knitting, lacework, mixed media, needlework, paper, quilting, sculpture, sewing, spinning, surface design, textile design and weaving. We include in this community as well, the farm producers who raise cashmere, wool, alpaca, mohair, llama and Angora rabbit, and the shops and galleries who make work available to the public.

Our Mission

Maine Fiberarts is a statewide 501(c)(3) nonprofit advancing fiber art, craft, farms, schools and businesses through education, exhibitions, celebrations and networking. Founded in the year 2000, we champion fiber art to Maine residents and to visitors from all over the U.S. and beyond. In 2024 Maine Fiberarts enters its twenty-fifth year of service in Maine!

Our Work

We represent fiber artists and their work, host revolving exhibitions of Maine work, create tour maps to fiber destinations, organize hands-on workshops, keep photo image libraries, post photo-illustrated stories about fiber destinations, maintain our social media and web presence, and introduce the public to Maine fiber art at our Center Gallery, located at 13 Main Street, Topsham, Maine. Come visit!

Our Goals

Our goals include fostering greater opportunities for artists and fiber producers to exhibit work, to make sales, to work as apprentices and mentors, to teach craft making skills, to learn about events, and to become better connected.
