Woven Tapestries

Woven Tapestries by Morris David Dorenfeld, 1937-2023. On View May 8, 2024–August 15, 2024.

“Morrie’s tapestries emphasize harmony, proportion, balance, and above all the visual music of color. Brilliant primary color itself is the subject of the artwork and of this book. As Morrie said, ‘Color is king!’”

From the book THE TAPESTRIES OF MORRIS DAVID DORENFELD: PAINTINGS IN FIBER, by Christopher Brewer Williamson

Dorenfeld’s spectacular woven tapestries are on view through August 15th. An assortment of vintage baskets that Morrie collected in his travels across Maine have been added to the show, along with several of Morrie’s own stunning needlepoints. All work is offered for sale. Come see!

Update on Rug Raffle Drawing!

Our “Braided Color Wheel Rug” special raffle tickets were drawn and WE HAVE A WINNER! January 5, 2024, we pulled the winning ticket to the beautiful Color Wheel Braided Rug, and the lucky winner is Pam Rowan!!! We mixed and mixed and mixed those tickets and our board president, Carolyn Wollen drew the winner. We are thrilled that Pam won this heirloom treasure, as she’s been very helpful and supportive to Maine Fiberarts and did such a great job in having us present a slide talk before Valley Forge Braiders in PA, setting up demonstrators during our “Braiding Now” exhibit, talking her friends into buying tickets, purchasing several (many!) tickets herself, and working with kids to learn braiding who came to the gallery. It’s a beautiful rug and Pam is a deserving winner!!

We sold exactly 101 tickets earning $2020, and I am so proud that we met our goal and raised money for Maine Fiberarts. THANK YOU TO ALL WHO PURCHASED TICKETS. Thank you also to Pam Rowan, Bobbi Mahler, Nancy Young and friends for working on this rug. The whole experience of working with the braiders has been a pleasure and we are still taking lessons from Bobbi! We won much more than raffle money.
